When a C-Suite member takes credit for a team’s work, it can be demoralizing for those involved and those who witness it. If it happens consistently, it may hinder productivity as team members realize their efforts are going unrecognized. Unfortunately, some leaders take advantage of their teams in this way, and it’s up to their leaders to correct this behavior. I believe it’s harder to undo the damage once it’s done, so I lead proactively by highlighting team contributions at the start of presentations, in emails, and during meetings. This type of board communication highlights the team’s achievements, boosts morale, and discourages individuals from taking credit for the productivity of others.
