Twenty North Carolina hospitals were identified among the best for maternity care. This is great information to have on hand since the NC maternal mortality rate is rising faster than the national rate reported by the CDC in 2023. The U.S. maternal mortality rate in 2021 was 32.9 deaths per 100,000 live births, according to the CDC, up from 23.8 per 100,000 in 2020 and 20.1 per 100,000 in 2019.
