Jenny Stojkovic: This 41 year old CEO was rejected to every job she applied to, then made history as one of the youngest women to take a startup public. Meet Anjali Sud, CEO of Tubi. Read her full story now: https://lnkd.in/ggGQwdUW. Born in Detroit and raised in Flint, Michigan, Anjali grew up in a family of Indian immigrants. Her parents prioritized education despite limited resources, and Anjali excelled academically. By 14, she was admitted into the prestigious Phillips Andover Academy. At first, Anjali began to fail her classes. But those setbacks fueled her further. Anjali went on to earn a degree in finance and management from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Starting her career in investment banking, she hit another roadblock: She was rejected from every major firm she applied to. Pivoting to roles in media and e-commerce, Anjali eventually joined Vimeo in 2014 as Head of Global Marketing. At the time, Vimeo was trying to compete with Netflix… and failing. But Anjali saw an opportunity when others didn’t. Instead of competing with streaming giants, she repositioned Vimeo as a SaaS platform to empower creators and small businesses with video tools. By 2017, at just 34, Anjali was appointed CEO. Under her leadership, Vimeo transformed, going public in 2021 with a valuation of $6 billion. That year, Anjali became one of the youngest women to lead a tech IPO. Then, in 2023, Anjali was appointed CEO of Tubi. But the journey wasn’t easy. Anjali faced immense skepticism as a young, female CEO navigating a tech world dominated by men. Her ability to pivot and lead during the pandemic, when demand for video tools skyrocketed, cemented Vimeo’s success. Reflecting on her challenge of becoming a CEO at a young age, Anjali shared,
“𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗲, 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴.”
Anjali’s story is a testament to resilience, bold ideas, and fearless execution.
